If you’re a frugal, free-spirited or ultra-fit traveler, you may think you don’t need travel insurance. But travel mishaps can happen to anyone, anywhere: canceled flights, missing bags, medical emergencies and more.

To help protect you while you travel, Allianz Global Assistance offers the OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan, a low-cost travel insurance plan that gives you the crucial coverage you need while you’re traveling. This plan includes emergency medical benefits; emergency medical transportation benefits; baggage coverage, including delayed baggage benefits; benefits for missed connections and trip delays; and more. Here’s what it covers.

Benefits of the OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan

The OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan is simple, flexible and affordable travel insurance for people who need emergency medical benefits while they’re traveling, whether domestically or internationally. It includes most of the benefits of Allianz Global Assistance’s other travel insurance plans, except for trip cancellation/trip interruption coverage.

The OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan includes up to $50,000 in emergency medical benefits in case you’re injured in a covered accident during your trip and up to $50,000 in emergency medical benefits in case you fall seriously ill with a covered illness during your trip. (For emergency dental care, the limit is $750.)

Not only that, but the OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan includes up to $250,000 in medical evacuation benefits. That means if you break your ankle while you’re trekking through the Mongolian steppes, or if you contract dengue fever in a remote part of Uruguay, this insurance plan can cover the cost of being transported to the nearest appropriate medical facility (subject to conditions and limitations). That’s not something you can easily pay for out of pocket, as medical evacuations can cost $25,000 to $250,000.1

That’s not all the OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan includes. You also automatically get:

  • Baggage coverage up to $1,000. If your suitcase disappears, your plan can reimburse you for the replacement cost of your lost items. There’s a $50 deductible and a limit of $500 per article, per trip, and the maximum total reimbursement amount is $1,000. There’s a maximum benefit limit shown on your Confirmation of Coverage for the following: jewelry; watches; articles consisting in whole or in part of silver, gold or platinum; furs; articles trimmed with or made mostly of fur; personal computers, cameras and their accessories and related equipment.
  • Baggage delay coverage up to $750 per trip. You’re in Iceland, but your bag went to Hawaii. Baggage delay coverage can reimburse you for the cost of necessary personal items you purchase when your bag is delayed six consecutive hours or more by a common carrier, such as the airline or tour operator you’re using.
  • Missed connection coverage up to $1,000 ($200 per day). If you miss your cruise ship’s departure because your flight was delayed, missed connection coverage can help you catch up with the ship.
  • Trip delay coverage up to $1,000. This coverage can help you resume your travels after a covered trip delay, if the delay is caused by the common carrier, like your airline or tour operator. It may reimburse the cost of an airline lounge up to $50, Internet access up to $30 and even a movie rental up to $25 if you must stay overnight while en route.
  • Supplier/itinerary change up to $500. If your cruise line or tour operator changes its plans, causing you to miss an activity you already paid for, this coverage may reimburse you for those non-refundable expenses.
  • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage up to $10,000. This one’s not exactly fun, but it’s important: If you lose your life, your limb(s), or your sight while traveling, the plan may pay you for your loss.
  • Repatriation of remains up to $250,000. Should you die while traveling, this coverage can pay for your remains to be brought safely home.
  • 24-hour access to our emergency travel-help hotline. When you’re facing a travel emergency, call our team of hotline travel experts. They can help you arrange emergency medical care, send a message home, alter your travel arrangements or reach the local embassy.

This provides the highlights of the OneTrip Emergency Medical Plan, as this is just a brief summary of what’s included. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. Please read the plan documents for full details.
